From Data to Decisions: How BITE is Transforming Customs Compliance and Tariff Analysis

In today's complex global trade environment, businesses face mounting pressure to maintain compliance, manage tariff exposure, and report clearly to leadership. In BITE's recent webinar, "Tools to Make Pre- and Post-Entry Customs Analysis More Efficient," the team demonstrated how the platform streamlines customs and trade workflows through automation, visibility, and intelligent analysis.

    From Enforcement to Innovation

Founded in 2023 by experts in trade compliance, data science, and supply chain investigations, BITE was created to solve a persistent problem: vital compliance insights buried in fragmented datasets. Drawing on experience from government export targeting systems and transshipment analysis, the team built BITE to transform raw customs data into structured, actionable intelligence—turning compliance from a reactive task into a proactive advantage.

    Core Workflows

BITE revolves around three workflows that mirror real-world compliance processes:

    • Dynamic screening databases for continuous product and entity monitoring
    • High-volume analyzers for tariff and post-entry processing
    • One-off tools for quick, targeted compliance checks

Together, they form a unified system supporting trade decisions across entry, audit, and planning phases.

    Dynamic Screening Databases

The platform's living databases continuously monitor and update both product and entity information for compliance risks. The Product Catalog centralizes trade-related data, assigning each item a compliance score that flags missing origins, HTS codes, or tariff inconsistencies. Users can upload via API or templates, validate codes, and export enriched datasets for integration with tools like CargoWise.

For entity screening, BITE monitors suppliers and partners across 300+ global datasets, automating restricted-party checks, ownership tracking, and risk alerts. Expansion plans include export controls like ECCN classification and AI-driven licensing analysis.

Analyzer Tools for Bulk and Post-Entry Analysis

BITE's analyzer suite processes massive datasets within minutes. The Tariff Analyzer allows users to upload thousands of HTS codes, calculate duties by country of origin, and identify exemptions instantly. The ACE Analyzer converts vertical ES-003 customs exports into clean, horizontal datasets for line-by-line review—exposing discrepancies, Chapter 99 misuse, or overpayments.

These tools simplify post-entry auditing, duty validation, and risk assessment, helping organizations identify savings and strengthen compliance.

    Lightweight Tools and Executive Reporting

For quick answers, BITE includes one-off utilities for import/export screening, tariff lookups, and regulatory checks. At the leadership level, interactive dashboards translate technical data into clear insights—tracking duty spend, tariff exposure, and compliance health across operations. These visualizations enable executives to forecast liabilities and support strategic sourcing or bond planning.

    Real-World Impact

BITE supports the full trade lifecycle:

    • Pre-entry: product classification, supplier screening, and data preparation
    • Post-entry: entry audits, discrepancy detection, and revenue recovery
    • Strategic planning: cross-country duty comparisons and tariff exposure forecasting

By bridging compliance and strategic operations, BITE turns data accuracy into business advantage.

    Pricing and Roadmap

The platform uses a scalable, credit-based model: a monthly subscription for access, with usage-based analysis credits and volume discounts for large datasets.

The 2026 roadmap includes expanded tariff coverage across Mexico, Canada, South America, Asia, and the EU, plus tools for USMCA eligibility, FTA analysis, and country-of-origin management. Future datasets will include steel/aluminum licensing and consumer protection flags.

    Integration and Execution

BITE integrates with existing systems through APIs and CSV exports, supporting gradual implementation with tools like CargoWise while connecting analysis directly to operational workflows.

    Conclusion

BITE redefines trade compliance by merging structured data, automated risk screening, and analytics into one platform. Through centralized data management, continuous monitoring, and executive-ready reporting, organizations can shift from reactive compliance to proactive, intelligence-led decision-making.

As global trade evolves, tools like BITE are becoming essential—not only for compliance but for building smarter, faster, and more competitive trade operations.
