BITE Data MCP: Connect Your AI Assistant
Run BITE's export classification workflow from inside your AI assistant: classification, license requirements, and EEI filing.
Last updated: October 2026
What is this feature?
BITE Date MCP connects your AI assistant to BITE's export classification workflow using Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard way for AI assistants to use external tools. Describe your product, answer a few follow-up questions, and BITE checks it against the ITAR US Munitions List and the EAR Commerce Control List, then returns a preliminary classification, license assessment, and EEI filing guidance.
When should I use it?
- • You already work in Claude or Claude Code and want classification without switching tools
- • Before quoting or shipping a new product abroad
- • For a first-pass USML or ECCN check before a full compliance review
- • To check whether a shipment needs EEI filing, and where to file
Before you start
- • A BITE account (sign up at app.bitedata.io) and membership in a team with access to the Export Workflow
- • An AI assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in
| Client | Status |
|---|---|
| Claude (web, desktop, mobile) | Supported |
| Claude Code | Supported |
| ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, and other MCP clients | Not yet verified |
Setup steps for clients that aren't yet verified are in the setup guide. Check the guide for status updates.

Start a classification.
Describe your product. For example:
"Classify a handheld thermal imaging camera with a 640×480 sensor that we're shipping to a distributor in Germany. Does it need an export license?"
- 4
Answer follow-up questions.
BITE asks one question at a time. If you're not sure of an answer, say "I don't know." - 5
Review the results.
Check any steps flagged Needs review with your compliance team.
What results mean
- • Classification: Potential USML category or ECCN (including EAR99), with confidence
- • License requirement: Whether a license is likely required, and possible license exceptions or exemptions
- • EEI filing: Whether Electronic Export Information must be filed in AES
- • Where to file: The agency and AES license type code
- • Needs review: Flagged when a result is inconclusive, technical details are missing, or the assessment couldn't finish
